Telling the Right Story:  Illuminating What Volunteers Really Accomplish

We all know that numerical totals of how many volunteers gave how many hours in a period never reveal anything about what volunteers actually did while they gave us their time. Yet those are the most common reports requested. But what should we be measuring and reporting that shows the impact of volunteer contributions? In this full-day session, Susan will answer this question, guiding us through the following topics:

  • Starting with serious goals for volunteer involvement that align with the priorities of the organization                       (outcomes, not just inputs)
  • Challenging head counts and hours served as measurements of success
  • Determining what data will measure impact and how to collect that information
  • Analyzing and interpreting metrics accurately
  • Reporting to tell a more complete story – what to say, how to say it, and to whom
  • Using reports to educate up and around (and win friends and influence people)
  • Other ways to shine a light on volunteers when good things happen – including make the most of recognition events
  • Engaging volunteers themselves in being spokespeople and advocates

Susan will present this session live, but from her office in Philadelphia, through the magic of Skype. We will still have two-way interaction, as she can also see the group during the session. Come and be part of this wave-of-the-future conferencing!
